Sweet Babu celebrated its restaurant opening June 2018. Serving desserts, wine, craft beer, coffee, and sweet and savory snacks, the owner, Shana Goldberger, brings her unique look at comfort foods to Winooski.
“I am inspired by nostalgia and the comfort foods of my childhood, but also uncommon and unique ingredients from around the world and the bounty of local and seasonal ingredients available in Vermont. I like to blend all of that together to make food that is at once familiar and exciting.” – Shana
Shana and I bonded over her delicious desserts and the challenges and rewards of running your own business. “The hardest part of running your own business is having to make the final decisions on absolutely everything. I have a lot of great support from small business advisers and friends and family, but at the end of the day, it comes down to me. However, this is also part of what makes running my own business so rewarding. I can take responsibility for the successes and be proud of myself for what I have accomplished and I can also take ownership of my failures and do whatever is within my control to make things better.”
Shana says that, at the moment, she is most proud of her frosted layer cakes. “Cakes are a feat of balancing flavor, structural engineering, and visual appeal, which is a challenge I really enjoy.”
Sweet Babu is open Thursday – Saturday 5:30pm – 10:30pm at 25 Winooski Falls Way, Winooski, VT.
