Lizzie & Jason married on sunny June day at All Souls Interfaith Gathering in Jason’s hometown of Shelburne, Vermont.
“I was hoping to create an elegant summer Italian style picnic experience mixed with the honest simplicity and natural beauty of Vermont. The unbelievable green space at All Souls, which overlooks the lake with the Adirondacks in the distance, felt like the perfect embodiment of that aesthetic.” – Lizzie
Lizzie was absolutely stunning in her Georgie gown by Made with Love Bridal, which she found at Everthine Bridal in Burlington, Vermont. The simple and elegant style of the dress paired with the summery, wild florals by Fast Pony flowers wonderfully brought that Italian-meets-Vermont style to life.
Lizzie is an artist, and painted and designed all of their wedding invitations.
“Aside from the ceremony itself, our “first look” was the most calming and meaningful moment of the day for me – all the anticipation and nerves of the morning melted away as soon as we saw each other, and it was incredible to just take a breath, be together, and acknowledge that the wedding was finally upon us.” – Lizzie
My best photographs are made when people are emotionally present and vulnerable. I would say about 80% of the people I work with are introverts who are totally unaccustomed to being in front of a camera – which I absolutely embrace. It means there’s very little room for posturing, and you can go right to the real stuff. My approach to creating that intimacy is to be emotionally intuitive and give people space to have their own moment.
At the same time, I’m all in for silly faces, goofy smiles, hugs, snugs, impromptu dancing and tickles. This is a time to celebrate and let loose after all!
“Julia is wonderful! She’s an incredible partner with a beautiful visual style, and she has a natural ability to capture incredibly honest moments.” – Lizzie
After an incredible ceremony, it was time to enjoy cocktail hour. All Souls is perched on top of a hill that overlooks rolling hills and the Adirondack Mountains, and games and picnic areas were set up for all the guests to soak up the June sunshine.
I love listening to toasts at weddings. You get to hear the most heartfelt, funny, and interesting stories about the couple from their favorite people. Lizzie & Jason had many toasts that head me tearing up.
“We were both shocked when fireworks started exploding in the distance! Our families blew us away with this insane surprise event and it was so special to have our celebratory day resonate in that moment and see all our guest’s faces illuminated under the lights enjoying the show.” – Lizzie
For couples in the process of planning a wedding, Lizzie suggests, “Deep breaths and be patient with the process — try to design a day that embodies what’s actually important to you two.
Julia’s presence throughout the day was a continual source of comfort – her experience, professionalism, and calm demeanor allowed me to relax and feel confident that everything was taken care of. Absolutely nothing felt forced, in fact it was just the opposite — our photo sessions with Julia felt very natural and non-intrusive.” – Lizzie
It was such a fabulous and meaningful day. I loved documenting every part!
