THE GOAL

This May I am hoping to travel to the Chiapas, Mexico and Nebaj, Guatemala for 10 days to document successful programs, talk to coffee farmers and show the many different facets of Food 4 Farmers' problem-solving approach! All of the photographs, video and audio work will go directly to Food 4 Farmers and will be used to share their story with the world. Having authentic and up-to-date representations of their work is crucial to the success of these programs. It's the human element that draws people into the story. I'll be traveling with Marcela Pino & Janice Nadworny, co-founders of Food 4 Farmers.

Food 4 Farmers is a Vermont-based non-profit that tackles the complex issue of chronic seasonal hunger in coffee communities. Most coffee farmers and their families rely entirely on coffee as their source of income, and every year families go hungry for 1 - 3 months (often referred to as "the thin months").

Food 4 Farmers partners with coffee communities to find solutions.  This often means families starting their own small businesses, and Food 4 Farmers works with people to give them the tools and information they need to make a change.  In 2013 I traveled with Food 4 Farmers to Nicaragua and I saw first hand how empowering these programs are and the huge difference they make in coffee communities. More information here.
