Caitlin & Matt eloped on a gorgeous October day at the treehouse at Moose Meadow Lodge in Waterbury, Vermont. They eloped on the 12th anniversary of their first date. You may have seen this elopement featured in Vermont Weddings.
“Our wedding was a celebration of our partnership to that point, and and affirmation of our love and commitment to each other for the future.
We loved that the treehouse at Moose Meadow Lodge was close to home and a perfect escape for a weekend. It everything we could have hoped for and more! With only four weeks to get everything together, the pieces all fell into place really quickly. We decided four weeks to the day before and pulled everything together in about ten days!” – Caitlin
“The most emotional moment when I walked down the path from the treehouse to where Matt was waiting for me. For both of us, this was literally the moment we’d been waiting for. Matt kept saying that he couldn’t wait for the moment he first saw me coming towards him in my dress, but I didn’t expect to cry as much as I did. As soon as I saw him and he smiled at me, I was mess. The happiest tears! It was surreal and beautiful – after 12 years together and a whirlwind month of planning, we were really getting married. “ – Caitlin
Moose Meadow Lodge is owned and run by Greg & Willie, and Greg is also an Officiant, making the process of exchanging those vows wonderfully simple. Greg is also known for making history when he officiated the first gay marriage in the state of Vermont in 2009.
“Greg and Willie are such wonderful people. Until we got there, we didn’t fully realize what a special spot the lodge was, let alone how special they would make our weekend, and our ceremony, and our stay with them. Greg blew us away with the ceremony. We emailed back and forth before the wedding about why we had chosen to elope and he wrote a really meaningful ceremony for us. Greg is the perfect officiant. He clearly cares about what he does, and puts a lot of joy and love into it.” – Caitlin
The intimacy that comes along with elopements is so powerful. My goal is to let the day belong to the couple, but as there are so few of us there – for Caitlin & Matt that meant is was the two of them, their dog, the officiant and me – it’s not like I could make myself completely invisible. There are moments where we were connecting and having a moment, like helping to fix the clasp on her dress, and others were I truly kept my distance, such as the ceremony.
“What was amazing was that we truly forgot you were there. Our vows were so intimate but not for one second were we distracted by a camera or felt like we had to pose. You were truly a witness to our wedding and captured incredible moments that I remember so clearly, and now have a visual connection for.” – Caitlin
I asked Caitlin what advice she would offer to other couples who are planning to elope.
“Be present in every moment, because it all happens so quickly. I wish we had kept it a secret for at least a day after our ceremony. It was the best secret to keep!”
