“I was so happy to be able to do a photo shoot with Julia last fall. She took the time to understand what it was that I was looking for; asking questions to get me to think deeper about how I wanted to portray myself, and offering excellent guidance on clothing, backdrop, and how to make the most of our time together. The shoot itself was so much fun, with Julia giving silly and serious prompts to bring myself out. I feel so grateful to have her as a photographer, and a friend!” - Abby

Immigrant Stories from the AALV in Burlington, VT

"Most people who come here as refugees, come from countries where there was torture or war. They had to run away from something. At some point, this trauma will become a challenge. I think the challenge is finding psychologists who have cultural competency training who have a deep understanding of the trauma that they may have gone through." - Thato Ratsbe
