Cape Cod Photography VCS Encounter Week

The Vermont Commons School schedules three "Encounter Weeks" a year, and during these times students from all grades are mixed together to work on a project, hike in the mountains, or travel somewhere interesting. Encounter Weeks were some of the most important times for me when I attended the Vermont Commons School, so when I had the opportunity to lead a photography week in Cape Cod with Jess Redmond it was a done deal.

Students were given a list of assignments to work on throughout the week (Portrait, Three Types of Light, Documentary, Self Portrait, In The Style Of, Exact Copy, Landscape, Long Exposure, Five Strangers, Decisive Moment) and we spent our days traveling in the area to work on the various photoshoots. In the evenings we gathered together to view each students best images from the day and discuss the process. I am very impressed with these young photographers and their ability to hone their skills over just a few days. The student leaders, Beckett and Ana, did a fantastic job throughout the week making sure things ran smoothly.

I've included a few of my own photographs from the trip in the gallery above, which will give a flavor of our week on the Cape!
