4th of July

I find the 4th of July to be a strange, fantastical holiday. Beer, food, fireworks, crowds and nationalism. A few shots I took in Burlington.

I love fireworks and sky lanterns, although the two could not be more different. One is loud, surprising and brief. The other is quiet, simple and slow. Watching sky lanterns drift off into the sky is calming, especially when you can watch them float for miles.

This year the 4th of July reminded me that I really need to do a full photoshoot for my series with some fireworks in them - it's all very American and traditional.
