Burlington Love: Thought Bombers & Sheila Jordan and Jay Clayton
June is a wonderful month to be living in Burlington Vermont. The Jazz fest here always has an unbelievably great line up, and there are always great art shows to check out. My summer has consisted of plenty of both, although before we get to that, I feel I should mention that I finally finished an entire bottle of Galykd Lite. Pretty proud.
The Burlington City Arts has a wonderful exhibition up on kites called Thought Bombers. Everything is designed by JDK a local graphic design company (best known for designing Burton and X-Box). The show is seriously cool and evokes a childlike yearning to fly kites all day long.
Last night I was lucky enough to get tickets to Sheila Jordan & Jay Clayton (with Jay Azzolino on Guitar and Jon Burr on Bass) at the FlynnSpace. While some of you may not have heard of these two Jazz/BeBop singers, I can assure you that they are two of my favorites. Sheila and Jay were FANTASTIC in their playful recreation of jazz standards. I am particularly a fan of Sheila's, and at age 82 (coincidentally the same age as my grandmother), she was still full of spirit and performed wonderfully.
This is an old recording from "Portrait of Sheila."
Sheila is a well known fan of Charlie Parker, she speaks about this bellow.
